We originally redesigned the website for Hawaii HIV/Aids Foundation over 2 years ago, in January of 2015. (Here’s our original post about that initial redesign.) A lot has changed in the world of web design since then, and the staff and board members at HIHAF were ready to refresh their site.
The biggest changes were made to the home page by removing the slideshow and incorporating full-width sections that include background images with text overlay and buttons linking to key content. The traditional sidebar was also eliminated creating full-width inside pages as well. However, to keep navigation within certain areas of the site clear for the site visitor, a “sub-navigation” menu was created directly under the main navigation bar. The sub-navigation menu changes depending on what area of the site you are in. Since HIHAF actively uses their Facebook page to communicate about information and events in the community, a Facebook stream was adding to the home page. Lastly, the layout of the staff page was completely revamped using a premium plugin called Essential Grid, to make the page more mobile-friendly and easier to edit.
